Erdungssysteme und deren Verbindungen unterliegen Einflüssen durch die Witterung. Zusätzlich werden die Erdungselektroden durch Korrosion im Erdboden angegriffen, da hier Wasser und Salze vorhanden sind. Das digitale Erdwiderstandsmessgerät Testboy TV 441 dient der Überprüfung des Widerstandes zwischen der Bezugserde und dem Anschlusspunkt der Erdungsanlage, nach IEC/EN 61010-1 (VDE 0411). Zur Messung wird ein Wechselstrom zwischen einem Hilfserder und dem zu messenden Erder eingespeist. Mit einer Sonde, die im Bereich der Bezugserde des zu messenden Erders liegt, wird der Spannungsfall gemessen und der Erdwiderstand ermittelt (Drei-Leiter-,Methode).
